Odisha CM reiterates inclusion of ‘Ahimsa’ in Preamble of Constitution

New Delhi: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reiterated his demand for inclusion of the idea of ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.

Speaking at the second meeting of a national committee formed for commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Rashtrapati Bhavan,

Patnaik said Ahimsa will bring peace, development and harmony. To ensure development in the country, youths must accept Ahimsa.

Future generations will be inspired if the present society follows Ahimsa, he added.

Patnaik further said as per Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology, poverty and social injustice are the biggest violence. As long as poverty exists in the society, the country’s independence is meaningless. Without Ahimsa, the poverty cannot be eradicated from the society.

If the Ahimsa is included in the Preamble of the Constitution, that will be the greatest tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the CM said empathically.
