Odisha college girls take out rally demanding arrest of VLW’s murderers

The students gathered in large number expressing their anger, discontent over women safety in the state. They put forward their demands for free and fair probe into the matter.

Jajpur: The alleged murder of village level worker (VLW) of Haridaspur panchayat, Smitarani Biswal has triggered widespread anguish among the people of the state. The students of Dharmasala Women’s College took out a protest rally near Jaraka Bazar in Jajpur district demanding the arrest of culprits in the case.

The students gathered in large number expressing their anger, discontent over women safety in the state. They put forward their demands for free and fair probe into the matter.

“Women safety turns out to be a joke in the state. A woman is being murdered in board daylight, still police seems to be silent on the issue,” alleged a protester.

Earlier on October 17, Dharmasala police had detained ten persons including Rupesh Bhadra, the husband of Haridaspur sarpanch, in connection with the mysterious death of VLW.

Dharmasala IIC Saroj Sahoo said, “the guest house where the incident took place is under surveillance. We are keeping a close eye on all the suspects. And a clear picture will emerge after the autopsy report is out.”

Meanwhile, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik formed a 11-member fact finding committee led by MLA Mohammed Moquim, that has met the family of deceased.
