Odisha cops rescue engineering student from Blue Whale suicide game

Cuttack: An engineering student, believed to have completed a quarter of Blue Whale suicide game stages, was today rescued by Twin City Commissionerate police in Odisha’s Cuttack.

According to sources, the young boy is a student of a private engineering college here.

“The boy has been rescued and handed over to the parents after counselling. He is in a depressed state,” Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said.

He has completed 10 levels of the Blue Whale online game, police sources said.

The student was staying in a rented house in CDA area under Markat Nagar police limits.

The neighbours found him depressed and informed Twin City Commissionerate Police through tweet leading to his rescue.

The student hails from Keonjhar and was studying engineering here.

Notably, the Blue Whale suicide game originated from Russia and deaths of over 100 young people across the world have been linked to it.

In the wake of reported suicide of youths by playing the online game, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed the schools to prohibit use of smartphone in institutions and buses.
