Odisha govt assures higher edu help for poverty-ridden girl student

Kandhamal: A day after the plight of a meritorious girl student in the district was reported in media, the local administration today extended a helping hand towards the girl.

Karishma Diggal, daughter of Senapati Diggal of Bahulamaha village in Midiakia panchayat under Baliguda block in the district, had secured A1 grade in the annual Matric examination with 91 per cent marks.

However, she couldn’t pursue +2 Science course due to poor financial condition of her family. Her father, a daily labourer, was unable to bear the admission fees.

The matter was reported in Sambad, Odisha’s leading daily newspaper, and it drew the attention of the district administration.

Kandhamal Collector Dr Brundha D today met Karishma and her mother at the collector’s office and assured her of all help from the administration for her higher studies.

Besides, several individuals and organisations have expressed their interest to help the girl.
