Odisha govt hikes bus fare

The Odisha government today hiked the bus fare with effect from September 1.

Bus StandA notification to this effect was issued by the Commerce and Transport department after a meeting between the members of the All Odisha Private Bus Owners Association and Commerce and Transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi here.

According to the notification, the fare has been hiked by 5 to 8 paise per kilometer.

The fare for the passenger and express, deluxe and AC buses has been hiked by 5 paise, 7 paise and 8 paise per km respectively.

Following the hike in bus fare, the passengers will now pay 64 paise per km for passenger buses, 67 paise per km for express buses, 89 paise for deluxe buses and Rs 1.08 for AC buses, the notification said.

The Association had demanded a revision of bus fares following frequent hikes in the price of diesel.
