Odisha govt hikes pension for freedom fighters

Bhubaneswar, May 5:

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today decided to hike the state pension for freedom fighters.

A direction in this regard has been issued to the state Finance Department.

As per the decision, the monthly pension of the freedom fighters who were jailed has been increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000, a release of the Chief Minister’s Office said.

Similarly, pension of those who weren’t jailed and had participated in Goa liberation movement has been hiked from Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,000, the release said.

On the other hand, the state token pension has been increased from Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000, the release added.

The pension hike will come into effect retrospectively from April 1.
