Odisha govt to seek SC nod for cooperative polls

The Odisha government, which has managed to avoid holding cooperative elections in the state so far on the pretext the matter being sub judice in the Supreme Court, has finally decided to seek permission from the apex court to conduct the elections.

The decision of the state government was conveyed to the Odisha High Court by the registrar of the state cooperative society  on August 6.

A single bench of Justice Akshaya Kumar Rath of the High Court, while admitting a writ by former director of Urban Cooperative Bank Tilottama Pradhan, had asked the registrar Biswanath Mallick to appear in person and furnish a counter.

Deposing before the court, Mallick said the state government had moved the Supreme Court while challenging the order of the High Court with regard to cooperative elections in the state.

Stating that the matter is sub judice in the apex court, he informed the High Court that the state government would seek permission from the apex court to conduct cooperative elections in the state.
