Baripada, Aug 2:

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) activists today staged a demonstration here and demanded the immediate arrest and suspension of the ruling Biju Janata Dal ( BJD) MP Ramchandra Hansda following CBI raids on his residence for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha.

The JMM activists burnt effigies of the Lok Sabha MP Hansda and chief minister Naveen Patnaik in front of the collector’s office here.

Led by former JMM MLA Ajen Murmu and senior party leader Debasis Marandi the protestors submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate, Mayurbhanj, Suratha Mallick, alleging that Hansda, who represented Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha seat, had “looted the hard earned money of the poor.”

The memorandum said “An MP belonging to the ruling party of the state found involved in the chit fund scam is unfortunate. He should be immediately arrested and recommendation should be made for suspension of his membership from Lok Sabha”.

The Central agency had conducted a raid at Hansda’s residence in his native village Bisoyi in Mayurbhanj district along with raids in other places belonging to two other politicians – former BJD MLA Subarna Naik and former BJP MLA Hitesh Bagarti on Thursday.

CBI sleuths had conducted raids on the office bearers of two ponzi companies – Nabadiganta Capital Service Limited in Bhubaneswar and M/S Rose Valley Group of Companies — at several places.

The CBI has been probing the activities of at least 43 ponzi companies, including Saradha Group in Odisha, following a Supreme Court order on May 9 this year.
