The court, after hearing the case, refused to grant bail to Dr Babu and posted the case for further hearing on July 16.

Dr Babu was arrested by the Odisha Commissionerate police in Vishakhapatnam last month for his role in the illegal kidney transplant conducted at the Seven Hills hospital. The so-called kidney donor Namita Nayak of Mangalabag in Cuttack had actually sold her organ against a promise of Rs 10 lakh.

Babu was charged with allowing the transplant to take place in the absence of the mandatory NOC from the Odisha government and also for not verifying certain crucial documents in connection with the transplant.

Babu has been sent to the Choudwar Circle Jail and will be lodged there until his case comes up for hearing once again on July 16, sources said
