A general observer is also present at the returning officer’s office to keep a watch over the scrutiny process.

While Abhimanyu Behera of the Congress and BJP’s Rudramadhab Ray filed their nominations on Friday, the BJD candidate Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh, widow of former Kandhamal MP Hemendra Chandra Singh filed her nominations on Thursday.

The bye-poll, scheduled for October 15, was necessitated by the sudden demise of Hemendra Chandra Singh on September 5.

Senior leaders of the three major political parties are camping at the district headquarters town of Phulbani to plan strategies for the victory of their respective candidates.
