Odisha man gets lifer for raping minor, killing father

Phulbani, May 6:

A court in Odisha’s Kandhamal district today sentenced a man to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 32,000 for raping a minor girl and killing her father.

Babindra Dehuri, an unemployed youth, was convicted of rape and murder and sentenced by additional district judge, Phulbani, Rajendra Kumar Tosh. He would be required to undergo rigorous imprisonment of two more months in case of failure to pay the fine.

In the midnight of March 28, 2013, a heavily drunk Dehuri had entered the girl’s house at Padarsahi and raped her in the presence of her parents.

When the girl’s father Bachiman Podha resisted the act, an inebriated Dehuri wounded him fatally killing him on the spot.

After the girl’s mother Sabita Podho lodged an FIR, Dehuri was arrested by the police.
