Odisha: Man’s eye gouged out as he fails to return money borrowed from in-laws

Nayagarh: Borrowing money and that too from a relative cost a man dearer in Odisha’s Nayagarh district as his one eye was gouged out by his brother-in-law following an altercation over the issue last evening.

Such an shocking yet bizarre incident has been reported from Sathiapalli village under Sadar police limits in Nayagarh district.

Reportedly, one Pramod Routray (50), a resident of Sajanapada village, used to borrow money from the brother of his father-in-law due to his financial instability.  He had assure the latter to return the money with interest. However, difference of opinion started brewing among them when Pramod failed to return the money.

Last evening, Pramod’s brother-in-law hatched a plan and called him to Sathiapalli village, following which an altercation broke out among them. The situation turned violent when Pramod was allegedly attacked by sharp weapons and one of his eyes was dug out. Later, he was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

A case has been registered in this regard and investigation has already been initiated, said Sadar Police Station IIC Jaydeep Mohanty.
