Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal Talcher MLA Braja Pradhan today came under attack from all quarters for allegedly seeking sexual favours from a girl in exchange of employment for her father.

While the MLA denied the incident and the authenticity of the Whatsapp chat could not be independently verified by us, posters of the online chat were pasted across Talcher.

According to the contents of the posters, the girl – a 19 years old college student – had approached the MLA seeking an employment opportunity for her father who had been laid off from Bhusan. The MLA, however, asked the girl to spend a night with him in exchange of getting a job for her father.

Even though the girl pointed out that she is young enough to be his daughter, the MLA replied back saying that is none of an issue.  Next day, the girl initiated another round of chat with the MLA wherein she consented to his proposal and the MLA said that he would send a vehicle to her college on 22 to pick her up.

“I have not chatted with any such girl. It is a lie. This is politically motivated. There are certain people in politics that are trying to ruin our reputation,” said MLA Pradhan.

Talcher BJD also stood by the MLA and lodged a complaint with the local police seeking an investigation into the incident.

“This is a plot by a group of intolerant people who are against us. We have lodged an FIR seeking an investigation,” said Talcher block BJD Secretary Bijay Biswal.

Even though the girl could not be traced and no formal complaints were lodged by her till late this evening, political parties trained their guns at the MLA over the issue.

“We want a thorough investigation. We denounce it, if there is any truth in the allegations. We hope truth will prevail,” said District Mahila Congress Committee President Sabita Dhir.

“This is an unfortunate incident. We want Talcher MLA to issue a clarification and the culprit to be punished,” said Talcher BJP General Secretary Prakash Chandra Moharana.
