Odisha mountaineer’s death: Delay in arrival of mortal remains likely

Bhubaneswar: Post-mortem of mountaineer Kalpana Dash, who died while descending from Mount Everest a few days ago, was conducted at Kathmandu today.

However, the process to bring her body back to Odisha is likely to be delayed by at least two to three days after completion of all necessary formalities.

Sources said passport of the mountaineer has been cancelled while a death certificate will be issued soon once the post-mortem report comes in. After that, her body will be handed over to the three-member team from Odisha which is camping in Kathmandu.

On May 28, Kalpana’s body was retrieved from the the spot where she breathed her last and later shifted to Kathmandu yesterday.

Worth mentioning, the 52-year-old climber from Odisha died above the Balcony area on Mt Everest on May 23 while descending from the summit. Kalpana, who had had left for Everest on April 23, had complained breathlessness while descending from the peak. At least 14 climbers died allegedly due to mismanagement and overcrowding this season.
