Odisha opposition parties gun for BJD’s actor politicians

Trouble continued to brew for the actor turned politicians of Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal as both leading opposition parties today demanded action against them.

Odisha Youth Congress today took out a rally and gheraoed police DG KB Singh’s office in Cuttack seeking arrest of the star politicians of Biju Janata Dal. Besides, some of them staged protests at various theatres in Bhubaneswar where their movies are being displayed.

“Naveen Patnaik is now in the crossroads. He is not able to understand whether these actor turned politicians need to be shown the door or some other action needs to be taken. We demand the resignation of both MPs and urge the Crime branch to arrest them. We also demand the case to be handed over to CBI,” said Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

BJP also raised its voice against these actors today.

“Not only Papu Pom Pom, but also BJD’s both actor MPs are involved in this. The State Government and the Chief Minister are trying to protect them. CBI is already investigating the chit fund scam. We ask the government to hand over the investigation of Oscar chit fund scam to CBI, said BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit.

Ruling party Spokesperson Samir Dash, on the other hand, asked the both parties to “wait until the crime branch investigations are over” and promised that the Chief Minister would spare none if found guilty.

Interestingly, while these actors once used to be the star campaigners for BJD during the polls, now they have turned out to be a liability for the party.

MP Anubhav Mohanty and Sidhant Mohapatra have acted in movies made by builder Niranjan Rana and Oscar chit fund company owner Prabhas Rout. Both producers have multiple cases against them. Similarly, actor turned BJD’s Champua MLA candidate Tattwa Prakash Satapathy alias Papu Pom Pom not only acted in movies of Prabhas Rout, but also advertised for his company.
