Odisha: OTET exam cancelled after question paper leak; probe ordered

Cuttack: The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) was cancelled by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) today after the question paper got leaked.

Photos of the question paper surfaced and went viral on social media while the first sitting of the examination was underway. After the conclusion of the first sitting, several examinees confirmed that the original question papers match with the leaked ones.

Terming the incident as unfortunate, BSE president Jahanara Begum said the new dates of reexamination will be announced soon.

The exam was scheduled to be held in two sittings today. While the first shift of the exam was conducted from 10 AM to 12.30 PM, the second sitting was scheduled to be held from 2 PM to 4.30 PM. Total 1.12 lakh candidates were appearing for the test today in 250 examination centres across the state.

The candidates were angry at the board’s decision. “We had prepared for months to appear for the examinations. But, it went in vain. The government should act against the culprits for uploading the question papers on social media,” said a candidate.

Meanwhile, the BSE has written to the State Crime Branch seeking a thorough probe into the matter and arrest of the culprits, informed Board Secretary Ramashish Hazra.
