Odisha sand artist Sudarsan eyes another world record on New Year

Puri: Less than a week after creating world’s biggest sand Santa Claus face, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, assisted by his students, is attempting to sculpt world’s biggest ‘sand Lord Jagannath’ at Odisha’s Puri sea beach on the occasion of New Year.

“We are attempting World’s biggest sand Lord Jagannath for the New Year. At Puri Beach in Odisha,” tweeted Pattnaik.

He has aimed a 30 ft-high sculpture with around 700 tonnes of sand. If created successfully, the sand art will break his previous record of a 25 ft-high sand Lord Jagannath which he had made in 2013.

Earlier in May this year, Pattnaik had created world’s longest sand sculpture of Lord Buddha at the 14th International Vesak Day Celebrations in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Similarly, in February this year, he had registered his name in Guinness Book of Records by creating world’s tallest sandcastle at Puri sea beach.
