Odisha scribe bags top award in National Film Festival on Rural Development
Bhubaneswar: Senior Odisha-based journalist Jajati Karan has won the first prize in the 3rd National Film Festival on Rural Development held in Hyderabad last month (November 20) by National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR).
The 8-min-long documentary film – “Traditional Healers” – was adjudged the best film in the category of “social issues related to rural development” among the 90 such short listed films selected for screening in the national film festival.
Jajati received a cash award of Rs 30, 000, a trophy and a citation as a mark of honour for his excellence in film making.
Jajati’s film based on the unique inclusive mechanism of Odisha Health Dept in taking the help of local traditional healers of remote Koraput and Malkangiri districts to spread the health awareness programmes among the tribals was adjudged the best film among the 90 such short listed films selected for screening in the film festival from across the country.
The jury members include – Rizwan Ahmad, Director, IMC, MANUU, Shyam Kishore Sahay, Editor, Lok Sabha TV and Nimish Kapoor, Scientist ‘E’, Vigyan Prasar and Head, National Science Film Festival.
Jajati has over two decades of experience in TV journalism and documentary film making and has worked for several national and international news channels. He is a recipient of several prestigious national awards like Ramnath Goenka Award for investigative journalism, and ENBA TV award for reporting on cyclone Phailin.
