Odisha shelter home shame: Puri centre of ‘Good News India’ sealed

Puri: Trouble seems to be mounting for ‘Good News India’ NGO as its ‘Dream Centre’ shelter home in Odisha’s Puri was sealed today following allegation of girl inmates being sexually harassed at its Dhenkanal branch.

Officials of the district administration today arrived at the shelter home and sealed it as per the direction of the Women & Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal, who had ordered for closure of all shelter homes of the NGO functioning in the state.

The inmates of the shelter home will be handed over to their guardians, an official of the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) said.

The inmates will be allowed to return to the shelter home after examination of its documents, the official added.

Notably, girl inmates of a shelter home of the NGO in Dhenkanal district were allegedly sexually harassed and tortured.

Fayaz Rahman, head of the NGO and two others– shelter home’s Project Director Simanchal Naik and Assistant Director Udit Lima– were arrested on December 2 in connection with the sexual harassment case.
