Odisha to spend Rs 11000 crore for strengthening of power infra in rural areas

Bhubaneswar, May 1:

Odisha Government is committed to invest about Rs 11, 000 crore in strengthening of the power infrastructure, to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the consumers in the face of any natural calamities in the state, said U N Behera, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), on the valedictory day of the two-day workshop on ‘Post-cyclone power restoration work- Lessons learned and Challenges ahead” on Wednesday.power

“We have averted a great crisis when ‘Phailin’ struck Odisha due to the necessary precautionary steps taken by the state government in time. Power supply was made normal within due time in worst affected areas like Ganjam and Gopalpur,” Shri Behera said.

Addressing the workshop, Energy secretary PK Jena laid emphasis on ensuring smooth power supply in the rural areas by replacing old and worn out electric poles as well as wires. He said the department has to address the concerns of the large population that lives in villages which suffer hours and even days of no power.
