Odisha sprinter Dutee strikes gold, breaks 16 yr national record

Ace Odisha Sprinter Dutee Chand today bagged gold medal in the women’s 100 meter event of Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championship-2016 being held in New Delhi.

She broke a 16 year old record on her way to victory. However, missed out on Olympics qualifying score by 0.01 seconds.

Dutee clocked 11.33 seconds to finish her race, while Olympics qualifying score stands at 11.32 seconds.

“I came here with a target to qualify for the Olympics. Unfortunately, I was not able to achieve that. I am still happy to have broken a 16-year-old national record. I have two more months at hand. I will continue to practice hard and am sure, I will be able to qualify for the Olympics,” said Dutee speaking to reporters after her race.

Incidentally, Dutee’s archrival Srabani Nanda, also from Odisha, came second in the race with 11.45 seconds.
