Odisha tribal woman accuses IIC of molestation; SP orders probe

An unmarried tribal woman has lodged an FIR  in Rourkela Mahila police station on Saturday night against the Inspector in-charge (IIC), Chandiposh police station accusing him of molesting her at the police station last Thursday.

The woman also met the Rourkela Superintendent of Police (SP) along with a local BJP woman leader on Saturday for justice.

According to compliant lodged by Laxmipriya Munda (35), a resident of Gauduniposh village under K.Balang police station of Bonei sub division in Sundargarh district, two youths came on a bike and snatched away her vanity bag, which had Rs.4500 in cash, when she had gone to a temple at Champajharan area under  Chandiposh police station on Thursday morning.

She immediately went to the Chandiposh police station and met Inspector In charge Uma Shankar Naik  and narrated the incident. But she claimed that IIC Nayak told her to give the complaint in writing and before moolesting her. When she resisted, the IIC taunted on her tribal origins, the woman claimed in her complaint.

On Saturday afternoon, the tribal woman, along with local BJP leader Pramila Das, met Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray and told him about the incident. MLA Ray discussed the matter with  Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh.

Soon therefater, Laxmipriya Mund, alongwith BJP leader Pramila Das, met the SP seeking justice and action against the IIC.

On Saturday night, she lodged an FIR at the Rourkela Mahila police station about her molestation. Rourkela Mahila police have registered a case and have started investigating the case.

“She met me and I have immediately ordered an inquiry into her allegation,” said A.Singh, SP, Rourkela.

US Naik, IIC, Chandiposh Police station, however, has denied Laxmipriya’s allegation. “I am innocent,” he told OST.
