Odisha woman attempts self-immolation during grievance hearing. Here’s why

Bhadrak: A woman of Bihudi under Dhamnagar police limits in Odisha’s Bhadrak today tried to set herself on fire at a grievance hearing camp of the district Collector alleging police inaction in tracing her missing daughter.

The woman attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene over her body in the presence of the Collector, SP and sub-collector. She was rescued by some persons present at the grievance hearing camp, following which the woman was brought to the Town police station.

As per the allegation of the woman, her daughter Pushpanjali Patra went missing on December 31, last year while going to college. She had lodged a complaint with police in this regard but no fruitful step was taken by cops in this regard, she alleged.

The woman further alleged that she had put forth the matter multiple times during previous grievance hearings but no attention was paid towards it, as a result of which she decided to take the extreme step today.
