Odisha woman injured after being shot in forest on suspicion of being boar

Sundargarh: In an unusual incident, a woman was injured in firing by a poacher suspecting her reportedly to be a boar in village forest under Kulata panchayat in Sundargarh district today morning.

The woman, Urbashi Nayak along with some other women had gone to a forest near Lamati village to collect firewood at around 11:30 AM. In the meantime, a poacher accompanied by another person entered the village forest to hunt a wild animal. Hearing sound of dried leaves as if someone was moving inside the forest, the poacher shot in that direction.

But Nayak was hit by a bullet in her bottom and fell down at the spot. The village women accompanying Nayak carried her to the village. She was then rushed to the Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital.

After being informed, the police reached the spot and detained two persons including the poacher.

Urbashi Nayak who hails from Dhumagada village has been staying at her uncle’s house in Lamati village to study at the nearby Birabira Degree College.
