Odisha youth dies 3 days after COVID vaccination

Nuapada: A 27-year-old youth died at VIMSAR in Burla yesterday, three days after he was administered COVID-19 vaccine. However, the Health Department has confirmed that the cause of the death is not related to the vaccination.

The deceased has been identified as Nanakram Keuta of Dianmunda village in Nuapada district. He was working as a security guard at the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

As per reports, he had received the COVID-19 vaccine shot on January 23. He was diagnosed with bleeding disorder, severe anemia and intracerebral hemorrhage.

The youth was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital on January 25 as he complained of uneasiness during duty hours. He was later shifted to VIMSAR as his condition deteriorated. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the healthcare facility.

Earlier, a 59-year-old woman Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) supervisor of Bijepur in Bargarh district, a 27-year-old staff nurse of Bargarh district, and a 45-year-old ASHA worker of Jagatsinghpur district had developed Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) and hospitalised. Their condition became stable after treatment.
