Odisha’s conjoined twins Ganga-Jamuna pass away

Cuttack: Ganga & Jamuna– the conjoined twins of Odisha’s Nayagarh district– breathed their last at Sishu Bhawan here last night, the hospital authorities said.

According to reports, the twins passed away around 1 am and the bodies were taken back to Nayagarh by the family members after completion of formalities at the hospital.

Sishu Bhawan superintendent Saroj Satpathy said the condition of the twins deteriorated last night. They experienced problem in breathing and died as their heartbeat stopped, he said.

He also informed that doctors were mulling to shift them to AIIMS, New Delhi.

Notably, they were born to Kishore Dutta and Sumitra Dutta of Sarankul at a private clinic on December 1 in Nayagarh district and later admitted to the Sishu Bhawan for better treatment.

The twins were joined at chest and stomach and shared a common heart and a liver.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena had announced that the state government will bear all the medical expenses towards their treatment.
