Balasore, Mar 15:

Amidst celebrations by BJP for landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Odisha has a reason to cheer as a daughter from the state has been elected to the UP Assembly in the recent polls.

Hailing from Balasore district, Leena Tiwari made Odisha proud to be elected as the MLA in UP assembly polls. She won the polls from Mariyahu assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

She contested the polls from Apna Dal, supported by BJP. Even, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had campaigned for Leena for the polls. She defeated her close rival Sharadha Yadav of Samajwadi Party with over 11,000 votes in the polls.

While Leena received 58,804 votes, Sharadha got 47,454 votes in the recent assembly polls.

Soon after the news spread following the massive victory, her parents’ joy knew no bound. Her family in Odisha distributed sweets to express their pleasure for the big win.

“People of Uttar Pradesh have elected Leena in the polls. As it was not the caste-based election, people cast their votes in her favour. We celebrated her victory in UP. It was not only happy moment for our family, but also for entire Odisha”, said Leena’s brother.

Born in the year 1972, Leena has spent her childhood and adolescence in Balasore town. Completing her schooling from Radhakrushna Hindi Nodal UP School, she had pursued graduation at Kuntala Kumari Sabat (KKS) Women’s College in Balasore. Later, she cleared her post graduation and Ph.D.

She tied the knot with Pawan Tiwari of Uttar Pradesh in 1990.
