Odisha’s first postal ATMs come up in twin city

India Post launched its first ATM services in Odisha for its saving account holders in the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack General Post Offices (GPOs) on Monday.

Chief Post Master General Tilak Dey inaugurated the service at the office of the Post Master General (PMG) office in the capital city.

The service would be introduced in Puri, Rourkela and Sambalpur very soon.

India Post targets to set up 39 ATMs in the state by the end of this financial year.

There are 1.15 crore customers of India Post throughout the state and more than 13 lakh under Bhubaneswar GPO.

The ATM service will enable hassle-free transaction for these large number customers who earlier had to fill up forms and stand in queue to withdraw money from their accounts.

The features of these 24×7 ATMs are very similar to other bank ATMs, but it facilitates transaction only for customers having a savings account with India Post.

Customers can apply for a postal ATM card if they have more than Rs 5000 in their account. The daily maximum withdrawal limit has been capped at Rs 40,000 a day.

It may be noted that the first Core Banking Solution (CBS) was started at Bhubaneswar GPO on December 1, 2014 and so far it has been expanded to 36 CBS enabled post offices.

The inauguration of ATM services gives a new dimension to this CBS network.
