OHRC asks Cuttack DCP, OCA to submit report on fire safety measures at Barabati Stadium

Cuttack: Ahead of the scheduled T-20 match between India and South Africa on June 12 at Barabati Stadium here, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Fire Officer, Cuttack DCP and the Odisha Cricket Association to submit their respective reports on the fire safety measures. The reports have to be submitted to the commission by May 26, 2022.

Nishikanta Mishra, the petitioner, stated in his petition in OHRC drawing the attention of the letter of Fire Officer, Central range, Cuttack to the OCA to get the fire safety certificates under Odisha Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Rules-2017 r/w the Odisha Fire Prevention and Fire Saftey (Amendment) rules-2019.

The petitioner stated that Barabati Stadium is having capacity of 44,000 spectators where there is no fire s safety system.

OHRC, in its order on May 13, is of the view that during the cricket match, fire safety system is a paramount consideration.
