Cuttack: At a time when preparations are in full swing for the T20I match between India and South Africa at the Barabati Stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack city on June 12, a person has moved the Orissa High Court seeking cancellation of the sporting event.

According to reports, one Sanjay Nayak of Bhuban area in Dhenkanal district has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court claiming that the Barabati Stadium lacks adequate fire safety measures.

The petitioner has sought the order of the court for the cancellation of the match.

Notably, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), acting on a petition filed by Nishikanta Mishra, had recently sought a report from concerned authorities regarding the fire safety measures at the Barabati Stadium.

The commission had issued notice to the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and DCP, Cuttack.

OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera had said that adequate fire safety arrangements will be made at the stadium to avoid any untoward incident during the international match.
