“Press” vehicle seized with 151 kg ganja from Odisha’s Koraput

Police during preliminary information shared that the ganja was being transported from Padua across Andhra Pradesh border to Aurangabad in Maharashtra.

Koraput: Cracking down on smuggling of drugs, police have arrested two out of four persons who were allegedly transporting ganja in a “press” vehicle and seized over 150 kg of the contraband from Nandapur block of Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday night.

The arrested accused were identified as Milind Chikde and Subham Sanjay Shinde of Aurangabad area in Maharashtra. While the duo was nabbed during night patrolling within Padua police limits, two other associates managed to escape.

As per reports, acting on a tip-off about illegal transport of drugs, police intensified their patrolling near Badadebata area late on Thursday night. During the drive, the team intercepted an SUV with “Press” stickers put on the front and rear of the vehicle. On searching, the cops found cannabis packed in seven large polythene bags. While two of the accused managed to flee, police managed to apprehend Milind and Shubam.
Official sources said the estimated amount of the seized ganja amounted to 151 kg.

Meanwhile, sub inspector Dipak Barik, who is probing the case said a case under NDPS Act has been registered. The accused are being interrogated and further investigation is in progress.
