Be proactive, people-friendly, Odisha CM tells young cops

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday urged the police to become proactive and people-friendly.

Addressing the passing-out cadets of Sub Inspectors (SIs), subedars and sergeants at Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, he said public perception of the police administration is generally based on their interaction with police personnel, who are the most visible symbols of the state.

“Hence, the way you deal with the public will go a long way in projecting a better image of the police and of the state. I am sure that you will consciously endeavour to project the image of the Odisha Police as a professionally proficient, proactive and people-friendly police”, Patnaik told the cadets at the Academy here.

He said although the state government has taken several initiatives for modernization of the Odisha police in recent years, the existing training capacity of the state police is not adequate to cater to the entire training requirements of the state police.

Keeping this in view, the government is committed to enhancing the capacity of police training institutes to train adequate number of police personnel annually, he added.

The chief minister assured the passing out trainees that the government would give due recognition to them in the shape of career advancements and other service benefits during their service in the Maoist-affected areas.
