Ragging in Vizag college claims life of Odisha boy!

Bhubaneswar: A +2 student from Odisha who was studying at Sri Chaitanya Institute in Visakhapatnam died today while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here after allegedly undergoing ragging by his classmates.

The deceased has been identified as Sreyas Kesharwani (16), son of Shailesh Kesharwani of Garposh under Bamara block in Sambalpur district.

According to Shailesh, his son was beaten mercilessly by the latter’s friends in the first week of December, last year. They had warned him of dire consequences for revealing the incident to anyone, he said.

Sreyas later informed his father about his illness saying that he fell in the bathroom following which the former went to Vizag and brought back his son on December 30.

After staying at home for a couple of days, he was admitted to Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today for better treatment.

However, he breathed his last at the hospital at around 11.40 am today despite several efforts of the doctors to save him.

While undergoing treatment at Ispat General Hospital, Sreyas had narrated the ordeal to his family members besides naming some of his friends involved in the ragging.

The father of the deceased has alleged that the authorities of the educational institute are not willing to take any action against the students involved in the incident.
