More rainfall in Odisha on Saturday

The local Met office on Friday said some parts of Odisha would receive heavy rainfall on Saturday.

“Yesterday’s low pressure area over coastal areas of Bangladesh and neighbourhood now lies over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood. Under its influence, rain or thundershower would occur at many places while heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places over the during next 24 hours”, the release added.

It also said gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 50 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha coast, the release said, adding that the fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during the period.

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded till 5.30 PM today was highest in Hirakud with 20 mm followed by 15.5 in Phulbani, 12 in Sambalpur, 9 in Angul, 8 in Jharsuguda and 7 in Chandbali.

The state capital had a meagre rainfall of 1.1 mm. However, the overcast condition drastically brought down the maximum temperature to 29.8 degree Celsius.

Besides, temperature in almost all parts of the state remained well below 40 degree mark.
