The accused identified as Himanshu Sekhar Nayak, managing director of Shreya Infrastructures Services Pvt Ltd, was detained at Sahid Nagar police station last evening.

After hours of questioning, he was arrested today.

As per the complainant, Nayak had taken Rs 30 lakh from him as advance for providing a Duplex house in the city. The builder had set terms to handover the property within 11-13 months of the agreement. However, he failed to meet the commitment following which the complainant lodged a case with Sahid Nagar police.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to accepting the advance amount from the complainant. The accused was arrested today after he expressed his inability to return the amount.

The head of the construction company, however, refuted the allegations.

“These are false allegations. The buyer has not paid the full amount. He had paid Rs 23 lakh and remaining Rs 7 lakh was due on him. Despite repeated reminders, he has not paid the due. Without paying the full amount, how can the house be handed over to him? The complainant has registered a false case against me,” claimed MD of Shreya Infrastructures Services Pvt Ltd, Himanshu Sekhar Nayak.

The city-based builder will be forwarded to court later in the day.

Notably, Nayak was elected joint secretary of CREDAI, Odisha last year for a two-year term from 2014-16.
