Bhubaneswar, May 28:

The Twin City Commissionerate Police today busted a sex racket operating at Vani Vihar slum in Odisha’s capital city. While two youths were arrested in this connection, police rescued a woman involved in the flesh trade.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Saheed Nagar police, led by the IIC, conducted a raid on the slum at around 11 am and arrested two customers of the racket besides rescuing a woman. Some objectionable items were seized from the spot by the cops.

Tension gripped the area following the incident as irate locals damaged the thatched house where the flesh trade was going on.

Notably, police have raided the slum four times in the last 4-5 months. However, the racket used to continue its operation unabated after each raid.

“As it is a bailable offence, people arrested during raids on the slum manage to get bail and re-involve in the act,” a police official said.
