Sharmila Mukerjee to receive Mahari Award for 2016

Eminent Odissi dancer Sharmila Mukerjee will be conferred with the prestigious Mahari Award for 2016 in the two-day Guru Pankaj Utsav held on March 18 in Odisha capital.

Sharmila Mukerjee, a noted danseuse, researcher and choreographer, currently based in Bengaluru, runs the Sanjali Centre for Odissi Dance there.

Mukerjee, has performed at major dance festivals across the globe and has been trained by maestros such as Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Guru Sanjukta Panigrahy.

The award, instituted by Guru Pankaj Charan Odissi Research Foundation, is given to a dancer of national and international repute and carries a cash award of Rs 50,000, a citation and  a memento.

The award will be conferred on Mukerjee at the 22nd edition of Guru Pankaj Utsav, as informed by Sarat Das, Director-cum-Secretary of the foundation at a press meet yesterday.
