Sugnana Kumari Deo, former Odisha MLA and ‘Khallikote queen’, passes away

Bhubaneswar: V. Sugnana Kumari Deo, a ten-time MLA who belonged to the royal family of Khallikote, passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, last night. She was 87.

The ‘Khallikote queen’ breathed her last at the healthcare facility at around 12.45 am. She was being treated at the hospital due to serious illness.

She was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly as many as ten times– 8 times from Khallikote constituency and twice from Kabisuryanagar constituency. The BJD leader was also the member of various committees of the Assembly.

Political leaders cutting across party lines expressed grief over the demise of Deo.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had on Friday visited the hospital and enquired about her health.
