SWCA clears 9 projects worth Rs 1920 cr

BHUBANESWAR, July 29: The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SWCA) presided over by Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra today gave in principle approval to nine projects with a combined proposed investment of Rs 1920.82cr. The projects would generate direct employment for 1873 persons.

While eight companies would set up steel pelletisation plants, the proposal of Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) for development of a rail linked container terminal and multi modal logistic park (MMLP) with proposed investment of Rs70 crore has also received nod of the SWCA.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL) G Mathivathanan said of the nine projects, five would be set up in Keonjhar, two in Sundargarh and one each in Cuttack and Jajpur districts. All these projects would be completed within two years, he added.

Among the projects that received the go-ahead today were a 3 million ton per annum (MTPA) iron ore beneficiation plant and a 1.8 MTPA pelletisation plant by SSAB Energy and Minerals and a 1.2 MTPA pelletisation plant by Sushant Minerals – both of them in Keonjhar district – and a 1.2 MTPA pelletisation plant by Essel Mining and Industries in Sundargarh district. Besides, three pelletisation plants of 0.60 MTPA capacity proposed by SKJ Ispat Limited, KK Pelletts Pvt Ltd and Fortune Iron and Steel Ltd – all of them in Keonjhar district – were also approved at the SWCA meeting today.

Issues relating to parking of vehicles by industries on the roads and benchmarking of land and water requirement for proposed industries were also discussed in the meeting.

The meeting decided that agencies like Mekon, PDIL, Engineers’ India will assess the land and water requirements of the company proposed to set up plant beyond 6 MTPA in the state.

Chief Secretary Mohapatra advised the Industry department not to allow industries to be set up within 500 meter distance from NH/SH and on river beds.
