Tension at Maharishi college as all prez, secy nominations rejected

Tension gripped Maharishi College of Natural Law in Odisha capital today as all the nominations for the post of president and secretary of the students’ union got rejected.

According to reports, the nomination papers of all the candidates for the two posts were rejected during scrutiny.

Following the incident, students of the college staged a dharna by burning tyres. A college staff was injured during stone pelting by the students, sources said, adding that the irate students also damaged a car parked near the college.

The college was closed sine die after the student unrest and the poll was cancelled.

Notably, the students’ union poll in colleges across the state is scheduled to be held on October 5. Counting and declaration of results will take place on the same day.
