The carcass of a two-year-old leopard cub was found besides railway tracks near Bhimkhoj in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Friday.
The cub was believed to have strayed from the adjoining Khalasuni or Meghpal reserve forest area under Rairakhol forest division. It might have come under the wheels while crossing the railway track in the wee hours, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Sambalpur, Sudipta Nayak said.
Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF), Sisir Kumar Acharya and other forest officials rushed to the spot and took the carcass to the deer park here for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, a case of unnatural death has been lodged by the forest department. The accident-causing train was yet to be identified.
