Tribals break Sec 144, perform animal sacrifice at Sulia Yatra in Odisha’s Bolangir

Defying Section 144 clamped by the district administration as a preventive measure, hundreds of tribals celebrated the annual Sulia Yatra at Khairaguda in Odisha’s Bolangir district this morning.

According to reports, the tribals mareched in a procession to the ritual site at Sanakhala in Kumuria village in violation fo the prohibitory orders and performed animal sacrifice at the place.

The tribals later did the same at Khairguda and Badakhala.

Neither the police and nor the senior officials of the district made any efforts to prevent the tribals from performing the traditional sacrifice. They stood as mute spectators to the gruesome practice.

Though the district administration has made similar efforts in the last few years to prevent animal sacrifice, it has been openly flouted by the tribals.
