Two critical as car plunges into Taladanda canal in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Two persons, including a woman, sustained critical injuries when the vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road and fell into the Taladanda canal in Cuttack city on Monday.

The incident reportedly took place on the Matrubhaban-Nayabazar road, although the exact cause of the mishap remains unclear.

The male occupant of the car is currently in critical condition, while both injured parties have been transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital for medical treatment.

Prompt action was taken by a team comprising local residents, firefighters, and police officers, who successfully rescued both individuals from the submerged vehicle.

An eyewitness at the scene commented, “Upon receiving information about the incident, we swiftly arrived at the location and rescued both occupants. The absence of safety barricades, despite ongoing construction work, led to the car plunging into the canal.”

Expressing concern over the incident, former MLA Prabhat Biswal remarked, “This is an unfortunate incident. I will urge the local MLA to arrange a meeting involving the Collector, CMC, drainage division, JICA, and irrigation department to implement appropriate measures that prevent such incidents in the future.”
