Two sons of Odisha police DSP among three held over murder in Bengaluru

Bhubaneswar: Two sons of a DSP of Odisha police are among three persons held on charges of fatally assaulting a 54-year-old man in Bengaluru on April 2.

Victim LIoyd Nehemiah, brother of serving Indian Army officer Col David Nehemiah, died on April 4. The accused had allegedly attacked LIoyd after he raised an objection to loud music played by the trio, sources said.

The accused have been identified as Basudev Samantray (34), his younger brother Anirudh Samantray (28) and friend Abhishek Singh (31). Basudev and Anirudh are the sons of Keshab Kumar Samantray, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at State Crime Records Bureau in Bhubaneswar, sources said.

Anurudh is an advocate working in an MNC in Delhi while Basudev is a project manager in a construction firm in Bengaluru. The three accused were produced before a court in Bengaluru yesterday, sources added.

According to sources, Anirudh had gone to Bengaluru to attend a family function at his elder brother’s residence on April 2.

According to police, the incident took place when the accused trio was playing loud music in a car soon after the family function in the wee hours of April 2.

Anirudh too sustained injuries in the incident, sources said.

Odisha police DSP Keshab Kumar Samantray, however, claimed that a false narrative was being spread about his sons.

LIoyd initiated the fight over the issue of loud music and abused Anirudh. A counter-complaint was also filed in HAL police station in Bengaluru, said the Odisha police DSP.

LIoyd’s death had nothing to do with the April 2 incident, he claimed.
