[Watch] New version of ‘Akash’ missile successfully tested off Odisha coast

Bhubaneswar: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) test-fired a new version of Akash missile successfully from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur today.

The new version of Akash missile named as ‘Akash Prime’ intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target mimicking enemy aircrafts during its maiden flight test after improvements, the DRDO sources stated.

On July 23, 2021, the New Generation (NG) version of the surface-to-air Akash missile was test-fired off Odisha coast.

The indigenous new variant of the Akash missile (Akash-NG) has a striking range of 70 km.

The medium-range missile is capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The Akash-NG was first tested on January 25, 2021. It was tested for second time on March 23. The third test was conducted on July 21.
