Water level of Hirakud dam in Odisha touches optimum mark

After 12 days of the severe cyclonic storm Hudhud, water level of the Hirakud dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district has touched the optimum mark at 630 feet.

Water level of the reservoir reached the optimum mark at about 6 AM on Thursday, sources in the dam said.

It may be mentioned that the as per the Rule Curve water level of the dam should be at the optimum mark either by September 30 or October 1.

Though the water level of dam had reached the Rule Curve specifications on September 29, the dam authorities had brought the water level down by five feet a week before the onset of Cyclone Hudhud following the forecast of heavy rains in the upper catchments of Mahanadi by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
