Well-marked Low Pressure to cause heavy rainfall across Odisha

Yesterday’s Low Pressure Area (LPA) over West-central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha Coast has turned into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the same region at 8.30 AM, the local Met Centre said in its afternoon bulletin today.

As a result, rain/thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha during the next 24 hours, it said.

The bulletin has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada,Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak,Kendrapara,Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Maurbhanj, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Jajpur and heavy rainfall at one or two places over remaining districts of Odisha during next 24 hours.

During this period gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha Coast, the Met department bulletin said, adding, after 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur in the interior districts including western districts of Odisha.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea.
