Western Odisha collectors’ meet begins

Sambalpur, July 3:

A two-day meeting of the collectors of ten western Odisha districts, that come under the Northern Revenue Division, began in Sambalpur here this morning.

The meeting, being presided over by Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Northern Division) Dr Pramod Meherda, is being attended by all the 10 collectors of the northern revenue division.

The meeting is likely to discuss the ways and means of tackling problems arising out of severely deficient and scanty rainfall over Odisha this monsoon.

With the Met department apprehending a poor monsoon under the impact of El Nino, there is a possibility that farmers in most parts of western Odisha, especially in highland, unirrigated and arid zones,  may face a drough-like situation.

According to sources, the collectors will discuss the possible measures to deal with the imminent threat of drought as also supply of drinking water and power to the lift irrigation points.
