Woman cop babysits, breastfeeds baby while mother appears for exam in Odisha’s Malkangiri

When she was asked about the incident, Basanti shared that she took permission from higher authorities before helping out the aspirant.

Malkangiri: In a heartwarming gesture, a woman police constable went beyond the call of duty and took care of an infant while the baby’s mother appeared for the Odisha Police Constable Recruitment Examination conducted in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Sunday.

As per reports, Basanti Choudhury was deputed at Malkangiri College while the exam was being conducted. One of the aspirants Chanchala Mallick turned up at the centre with her four-month-old daughter as she had no one to attend to her baby back home. As she seemed visibly distressed over juggling the role of a mother while taking an exam, Basanti came to her rescue. The latter not just provided exam-related assistance to Chanchala but also offered to babysit the infant while she was away.

The cop reportedly took care of the baby till the end of the examination and even resorted to breastfeeding to calm down the child.

When she was asked about the incident, Basanti shared that she took permission from higher authorities before helping out the aspirant. “The baby was with me for more than an hour. I even breastfed the infant and later handed her to the mother after the exam got over, she said.

Basant’s noble gesture was lauded by Malkangiri police. Taking to his official handle on Twitter, Malkangiri SP wrote, “A candidate appearing for Constable (civil) recruitment examination today at Malkangiri was overwhelmed when Constable Basanti Chowdhary, deputed at the venue, took care of her infant baby while she was appearing for the exam. Kudos to both”.
