Woman alleges misbehaviour inside Odisha’s Puri Jagannath temple

Chaos prevailed inside the Jagannath temple in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri after a woman devotee today complained of alleged misbehaviour by a policeman during darshan of the deities.
The woman devotee lodged a complaint with Shri Mandir Garada (temple office) for alleged police misbehaviour during Mangala Aarati darshan in the wee hours today.
However, the temple police personnel denied the allegations and launched a counter attack on the complainant.
Shri Mandir Temple police official Santosh Das contested that the women misbehaved with him while they were trying to enter into the temple from south gate.
When we prevented some women entering the temple without ticket, the women devotees misbehaved with me, the man in khaki said.
As per temple rules, no devotee can enter the temple through Beheran dwar (south gate facing towards Muktimandap) without a valid ticket.
It may be mentioned that devotees, servitors and socio-cultural organisations have been protesting since last two days the erection of barricades inside the 12th century shrine allegedly causing inconvenience to the devotees to witness Mangala Arati of the deities.
They staged protest in front of Puri Singhadwara police station and Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) office to lift the barricades inside the Natya Mandap of the temple which the temple administration claimed that it has been installed for smooth darshan of Mangala Arati.
